Last week, the Leduc-Nisku EDA in partnership with Edmonton Economic Development was pleased to host a key executive from a major Netherlands company to tour opportunities in the Edmonton region.

Mr. Simon Bambach, Vice President, North America, VDL Groep came to explore opportunities for the advanced manufacturing firm in the Edmonton region.

VDL Groep is a multi-billion dollar Netherlands company with 85 different divisions that make thousands of products in many different industries, all utilizing advanced manufacturing capacity.  Mr. Bambach was here to learn about opportunities in Nanotechnology, Health, and Agriculture both for investments and partnerships.

As part of his tour he visited the University of Alberta Nanotechnology Institute and NanoFAB, NAIT, Bio Composites Inc. and Clean Energy Technology Centre (Drayton Valley), Edmonton Research Park, Leduc Food Processing Centre, and Edmonton International Airport.  It was part of a whirlwind 48 hours to introduce him to companies and opportunities in the Edmonton Region.

We were able to connect him with several of our regional elected officials including representatives from the City of Leduc – Mayor Greg Krischke and Councillors Dana Smith, Beverly Beckett and Glen Finstad and Leduc County – Mayor John Whaley and Councillor John Schonewille, Town of Devon Mayor Stephen Lindop, Town of Beaumont Councillor Bruce LeCren, and Village of Warburg Mayor Ralph Van Assen.  We were also proud to be able to engage both our MLAs – the Honourable Shaye Anderson, Minister of Municipal Affairs and MLA for Leduc-Beaumont and MLA Mark Smith – Devon-Drayton Valley.

This opportunity arose from a meeting with Mr. Bambach in the Netherlands in May 2016 by Leduc-Nisku EDA executive director, Barbara McKenzie, Mayor Stephen Lindop, and Town of Devon, MLA Mark Smith and representatives from ABC Tech and others.
We look forward to continue conversation with VDL and engaging them in opportunities to invest in the Edmonton region.
