Wow, what a summer it’s been so far! The Alberta Summer Games in July served as the perfect warm-up for The Summer Olympics In August. The amount of national pride, hard work, determination and achievement shown by the youth of our province and country was awe inspiring to say the least. When you hear the stories and the struggles faced by so many of the athletes, you can’t help but be drawn into the spectacle. Believe it or not I used be a bit of a rugby player myself and couldn’t be more proud of our women’s rugby team. The heart and courage displayed by Jen Kish and the rest of the women was simply amazing and should lead to more Canadian youth lacing up the cleats and getting out on the rugby pitch!

Getting down to Agri-Business

Continuing with the theme of national pride, I had the honour of attending an agricultural trade mission in Saskatoon “the Paris of the Prairies” (a nod to The Tragically Hip song – Wheat Kings!). We have joined stakeholders and organizations in this province who want to create a bio-food cluster, much like what is happening with our cousins to the East in Saskatchewan. Together, Saskatchewan not-for-profit groups, academia, government and private companies are working to produce value added products that create employment and allow for the transformation of their raw goods into higher value products that can be sold world-wide. Along with myself, we had representation from the Agriculture and Food Council of AB, U of A, Alberta Food Processing Development Centre, Alberta Crop Industry Development Fund and The Innovators.

The great migration

If you’ve been following our social media lately, you’d know that our office has moved! After five years in our old space on 50th Street in Leduc, we have moved to our new home – Unit #103, 6527 Sparrow Drive. This move has allowed us to downsize our office as we look to become more efficient in our use of space and day to day operations. A change of scenery can be many things but for me three words come to mind: fresh, exhilarating and invigorating. Curious about or new digs? Don’t worry, we’re planning an open house for November.

Until next time, keep your head down and swing easy!
