Alberta’s International Region is home to a number of world class research and training facilities.  These facilities have helped to foster a region where a highly skilled workforce is ready to innovate.

CanmetENERGY generates knowledge to provide solutions to industry, advice to government policy makers and regulators, and Canadians with relevant information on oil sands and heavy oil issues. CanmetENERGY enters into more than 150 client-sponsored projects per year, including companies ranging from small to major international energy corporations.
  • The Government of Alberta’s research and development expenditures are among the highest in Canada due to annual draws on two research endowment funds currently valued at over $2 billion.
  • Alberta’s provincial Scientific Research and Experimental Development tax credit is worth up to 10% of a company’s eligible expenditures up to $4 million (for a maximum credit of $400,000).
