Technology, Research and Education
Alberta's International Region offers a wide variety of research, education and learning experiences. Residents living in the region are given only the best opportunities at improving themselves.
The region is home to a wide variety of Continuing Education learning opportunities, offering courses and programs in a wide variety of study areas including: business, adult literacy, family literacy, computers, first aid, personal development and more.
Dozens of elementary and secondary schools provide education ranging from tiny-tots to high school. Alberta's public school system has recently been recognized as one of the best in the world as demonstrated in a recent PISA International Assessment. Students from Alberta scored first in reading and within the top three places in mathematics and science.
In addition, there are several impressive public libraries, workforce and employer learning opportunities, local training facilities, work experience programs and apprenticeship programs.
An impressive array of post-secondary institutions, including University of Alberta, Northern Alberta Institute of Technology and Grant MacEwan Community College, add to the region's already formidable education establishments. As of 2001, over half of Alberta's International Region's workforce was reported as having some form of post-secondary education, whether it be a certificate, diploma or degree from a post-secondary institution. Alberta's post-secondary institutions are also internationally recognized as leaders in the fields of research and development.
